Every morning at 6am, I wake up and get out of bed. I make my way to the kitchen and start preparing my breakfast.

I usually have some sunny side up eggs with some toast and coffee. My kids like to have cereal right out of the box - this is not what I taught them.

Today is a different kind of day and I am not going about my regular routine. Today I am going on an adventure through the city, and I am going to explore downtown.

As I get dressed, I pick out comfortable shoes and some stretchy pants. I remember to take a soft sweater too, in case it gets colder later.

When I am ready to go, I pick up my bag and go to my car. After I get in, I turn on the radio and choose my favorite station. I love listening to music when I am driving. Then, I am driving off to town!

The drive is long because I live in the suburbs, and when I get into the city I start looking for a parking space to pull into. I find one in front of the main Cathedral in my town.

The Cathedral is beautiful and I can't wait to go in. I walk up to the doors and see that they are open for visitation. I go inside and see that there are candles on the left side of the chairs. Some are lit up and some are out.

I walk down the nave of the church and look up. The ceiling is covered in beautiful pictures. They are called frescos and are very colorful. They are painted on the ceiling and behind the altar. I loved seeing them.

I walk out of the church and down the street. My next stop is the city library. It was built on the main street, in front of the park. It is very big and has tall columns. I walk up the steps and go in the front doors.

Today I am not here to get a book, but to listen to a talk by the author of my favorite book series. He is going to explain what happens to the characters in the next installment. I am very excited.

I sit down in the middle of the room and get out my questions. I am going to go up to the microphone and ask something too.

The talk takes 1 hour and when it is finished I am very hungry. So I hurry out of the library and go to the center market to buy a sandwich.

At the sandwich stand, I ask for a roastbeef sandwich to eat there, and I sit down on the the benches. It is great and fills me up.

After lunch, I go back to my car and get ready to drive away. It is time to go home after this trip to the city.

David Livingstone - The Pathfinder : A reading Journey

David Livingstone is perhaps one of the easiest to biograph missionary. We have most of his journals still intact and many family and friends whose records have perdured to give us a clear image of who he was.  We use Abeka reading books at my school in Brazil, and this year he advanced English class has been reading their biographic account of this great man.  To make the reading process more impacting, and to ensure that the kids are actually doing the reading and understanding the story, I created some basic quizzes to give them as they read each chapter.  I'll be posting these quizzes here in case anyone would like to use them with your book.  As I said, we are using the Abeka version, and we use a 4th grade reading level for the advanced B2 EFL students in 8th and 9th grade.  After going through many trials, and trying many different kinds and levels of books, we have come to this structure. Our students, while pretty good language learners and users, don't...
